The BMW 850CSi

In the 1990s, BMW introduced the 8 Series (E31) to serve the top segment of the luxury GT market. The model was positioned to combine the comfort of a large luxury coupé with top-level performance and the most advanced technology available at the time. The 850CSi was introduced in 1992 as, in terms of sportiness, the top model, developed by BMW M GmbH – recognizable by the chassis number starting with ‘WBS’ instead of ‘WBA’.

Collectible

Only 1,510 units of the BMW 850CSi were built over a four-year production period, emphasizing the exclusivity of this car and explaining why this model is now such a highly desirable collector’s item. This particular example is truly exceptional, having been brought to like-new condition in every aspect, with no expense spared. The car was originally delivered in Italy, where it remained until three years ago before being brought to the Netherlands. The second and current owner completed the restoration to perfection. Everything is very well documented.

Technical marvel

The BMW 850CSi is equipped with the 5.6-liter V12 engine, the S70B56 engine block, which would later also be used in the McLaren F1. The engine produces 380 hp and 550 Nm of torque – impressive performance in the early 1990s. Furthermore, the 850CSi was the model on which BMW introduced its Aktive Hinterachs-Kinematik technology, a rear-axle steering system where the rear wheels turn slightly for added agility.

Calypso Red

This BMW 850CSi is finished in the stunning Calypsorot color, code 252, which creates a spectacular effect in sunlight. The interior features luxurious black Nappa leather, and the wheels are the original 17-inch ‘Throwing Star’ alloy wheels, specific to the CSi. Furthermore, the windows are UV-cut in emerald tint.
