Toyota Motor announced the details of the EV (electric vehicle) “e-Palette” (Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic specification) that will be provided to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a mobility service using self-driving cars. "The 46th Tokyo Motor Show 2019" held mainly in Tokyo Big Sight (Press Day: October 23-24, Special Invitation Date: October 24, Public Release Date: October 25-November) 4th) will be exhibited at the Toyota booth.

e-Palette (Tokyo 2020 specification) has a body size of 5255 x 2065 x 2760mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 4000mm. The maximum speed is 19km / h and the cruising range is 150km. There are 20 crew members (including one operator). When using a wheelchair, there are 4 people and 7 standing people.

Na alle autonome concept cars (er was trouwens ook een e-Palette Concept in 2018) gaat Toyota er gewoon een produceren en ik vond het wel een eigen topic waard. Uiteraard nog niet voor veelvuldig gebruik op de openbare weg maar wel een stap in de goeie richting. Ik hou hier wel van!

Eens ze dat volledig onder de knie hebben, is er misschien weer wat budgettaire ruimte voor een designer

One of the first Toyota EVs to launch in Japan is the Ultra-compact BEV (battery electric vehicle), scheduled to arrive in local dealerships in late 2020. The model will debut in production-ready guise at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month.

Designed to provide short-distance mobility while limiting impact on the environment, the production-ready Ultra-compact BEV targets Japan’s aging society, aiming to “provide freedom of movement to people at all stages of life.” More specifically, the two-seater EV is designed to meet the daily mobility needs of customers who make regular, short-distance trips. These users include the elderly, newly licensed drivers, or business-people visiting local customers.

With that in mind, the driving range of around 100 km (62 miles) and the top speed of 60 km/h (37 mph) seem appropriate. Toyota also says the Ultra Compact BEV features “an extremely short turning radius” which should come in handy on narrow city streets. Styling-wise, there’s not much to say as the tiny EV definitely reminds us of the Smart Fortwo when it comes to its overall shape.
