Cadillac’s sedan-focused lineup is finally getting some much needed relief as the company has taken the wraps off the 2019 XT4.

Looking like a shrunken down version of the XT5, the XT4 has a familiar design as it adopts a wide grille which is flanked by drooping LED headlights. The crossover also has a bulging hood, streamlined bodywork and black plastic body cladding.

Three different versions will be available and each model will have distinctive styling inside and out. The entry-level XT4 Luxury starts at $35,790 and features satin aluminum exterior trim and 18-inch alloy wheels with a bright silver finish.

Inside, the model has power front seats, aluminum trim and leatherette upholstery. Drivers will also find a dual-zone automatic climate control system and four USB ports.

The XT4 Premium Luxury goes one step further as it has satin aluminum roof rails, illuminated door handles and 18-inch wheels with a pearl nickel finish. The crossover also comes equipped with a power liftgate and an assortment of driver assistance features such as Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert.

Drivers will find a more luxurious interior as the model has leather seats, ambient lighting and wood or aluminum trim. Other niceties include an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a memory function for the driver’s seat.

Lastly, the XT4 Sport is the most distinctive of the bunch as it has gloss black exterior accents, unique taillights and special 18-inch alloy wheels. The sporty theme continues in the cabin as the model has a sport steering wheel, unique leatherette upholstery and carbon fiber or wood trim.

Regardless of which trim level is selected, all XT4s offer a spacious and upscale cabin with 39.5 inches (1,004 mm) of rear legroom and 48.9 cubic feet (1,385 liters) of cargo capacity when the rear seats are folded down.

Other highlights include a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel and an all-new eight-inch infotainment system that offers improved voice recognition technology and NFC connectivity. The model also has a new infotainment controller with dedicated shortcut buttons for frequently used screens such as the home, audio, phone and navigation panels.

An assortment of different options will be available including a wireless smartphone charger, an air ionizer and a Bose audio system. Customers can also order heated front seats and an Active Sport Suspension with continuous damping control on the XT4 Sport.

Power is provided by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 237 hp (177 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission which enables the model to return an EPA-estimated 25 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined. Front-wheel drive is standard but a twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system will also be available.

The 2019 Cadillac XT4 will go up for order later this month and the model will spearhead a “dramatic expansion and elevation of the product range.” As part of this initiative, Cadillac plans to introduce a new model once every six months through 2021.

Ik vind het best een aardig model al had ik er ingepakt iets meer van verwacht. Cadillac mag van mij wel wat hardere lijnen hebben en meer potserige grille. Interieur ziet er op het eerste oog best fraai uit

Ik ben ook niet erg overtuigd, de auto past keurig in het Cadillac-gamma en oogt prima, maar bijzonder is het allemaal niet. Ik ben benieuwd naar de Nederlandse prijzen, hopelijk lukt het Cadillac eens om een concurrerend product neer te zetten.

Ik zie geen krachtbron die doet vermoeden dat je een cadeautje krijgt in de vorm van een lage bijtelling oid, dus dit zal ook wel weer een tamelijk kansloos model zijn voor hier.

Aardig model, maar niet echt begeerlijk ofzo.

GM kan de 1.6 'Opel' diesel gebruiken, die bij Opel toch zal worden uitgefaseerd. De motor wordt ook gebruikt voor de Chevrolet/Holden Equinox met ongetwijfeld dezelfde basis. Dan moet men waarschijnlijk wel investeren in het schoner maken van de krachtbron. Een serieuze hybride, plug-in hybride of zelfs volelektrische variant zou minstens zo interessant kunnen zijn. Maar ja, Cadillac heeft al een CT6 plug-in hybride, maar levert 'm hier niet. Misschien moet de Nederlandse importeur eens aan de bel trekken, want de paar Nederlandse dealers willen toch ook weleens een auto verkopen, iets dat vorig jaar volgens mij niet is gelukt...

Inmiddels is de auto ook in China in productie, het land waar Cadillac steeds populairder wordt. In 2017 streefde China de thuismarkt al voorbij als grootste markt voor Cadillac.

De Cadillac XT4 komt eindelijk naar Europa. De Europese uitvoering is standaard uitgerust met een 2,0-liter dieselmotor van GM bekend uit de Opel Insignia. De motor levert 125 kW/170 pk en 380 Nm koppel en voldoet aan de Euro 6d-emissienormen. De verkoop vangt begin 2020 aan. In Duitsland variëren de prijzen van de XT4 tussen de 42.900 en 49.200 euro afhankelijk van uitrustingsniveau en of er sprake is van voor- of achterwielaandrijving en handbak of automaat met dubbele koppeling. Bij aanvang zijn er twee versies:

XT4 Launch Edition met voorwielaandrijving
XT4 Launch Edition Sport met voor- of vierwielaandrijving en DCT-automaat.

Al met al voor diverse markten een interessante nieuwkomer die Cadillacs magere afzet weer een beetje kan doen toenemen, maar de keuze voor een dieselmotor in deze tijden is wel opvallend, GM zal er nog wel de nodige op de plank hebben liggen, terwijl Opel de GM-dieselmotoren geleidelijk zal uitfaseren. Of de auto in Nederland een beetje verkoopbaar wordt hangt natuurlijk af van de CO[sub]2[/sub]-uitstoot.

Voorheen waren er in Duitsland een tweetal Launch Edition-uitvoeringen, nu zijn er de definitieve uitvoeringen en die zijn niet duur!

De Cadillac XT4 is de enige Cadillac die nu in Europa wordt geleverd. Ook in Nederland staat de auto op de website vermeld, maar er wordt geen prijslijst gegeven. De CO[sub]2[/sub]-uitstoot van de versie met voorwielaandrijving bedraagt 154 g/km volgens NEDC en 167 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus. Dat betekent dat de BPM per 1 juli geen € 21.113 maar € 15.519, dus zelfs in Nederland zou een prijskaartje van net onder de 50 mille wellicht mogelijk moeten zijn. Helemaal niet verkeerd. Voor hetzelfde geld krijg je bij BMW een X1 of X2 sDrive18d, een instap-Q3, E-Pace of Discovery Sport is enkele duizenden euro's duurder. Cadillac zou er echter goed aan doen om met een plug-in hybride te komen, die zou in heel Europa beter verkoopbaar kunnen zijn.

De XT4 met 2.0T benzinemotor is nu ook in Europa leverbaar. In Nederland is de auto alleen op speciaal verzoek verkrijgbaar vanaf €69.900. Daarmee ligt de vanafprijs ongeveer 31 duizend euro hoger dan van concurrent Volvo XC40. Niet slecht.

Ik heb er alle vertrouwen in dat dit wel een succes zal worden, met twee of misschien zelfs wel drie verkochte exemplaren per jaar
