Ferrari has released the first pictures and details of the new 812 Superfast, which makes its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 7.
The calls the F12-based V12 berlinetta an "extreme performance" variant, its fastest road car thanks to Ferrari's most powerful production engine, which develops 789bhp.
Ferrari says it is aimed at those who demand the most powerful and exclusive Ferrari available: a car that will deliver exhilarating driving both on road and track yet also be sufficiently comfortable to use at any time.
The top speed is 211mph, with 0-62mph in 2.9sec.
The V12 develops its peak power of 789bhp at a screaming 8,500rpm, which Ferrari claims that no other front-engined production car has come close to matching. As you might expect, a thrilling soundrack is also promised.
The maximum torque of 530lb ft is developed at 7,000rpm, with 80 per cent of that available at 3,500rpm, thanks to the use of a 350-bar direct-injection system along with variable geometry intake tracts derived from its Formula 1 experience. Its dual-clutch transmission features reduced times between up- and down-shifts.
The 812 Superfast is the first Ferrari with EPS (Electric Power Steering) which is calibrated to work in tandem with the car's electronic vehicle dynamics controls, including the latest version of Ferrari’s patented Side Slip Control (SCC) - make its powerful performance easier to handle and even more thrilling to exploit.
The vehicle controls also feature, for the first time, the Virtual Short Wheelbase 2.0 system (PCV) which, following the experience gained with the F12tdf, features a further evolution of the software that improves the nimbleness of the handling and reduces the vehicle response times even further.
Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, the 812 Superfast has a high tail reminiscent of the 365 GTB4 of 1969. LED headlights are integrated into the design of the sculpted air intakes while at the rear there are four round tail-lights inspired by Ferrari tradition.
The car is being launched in a special new colour, Rosso Settanta, which marks the company’s 70th anniversary.
Aerodynamic innovations include a multi-functional frontal section, which incorporates a cluster of aerodynamic solutions including active flaps at the front of the underbody, and the rear flank which features an unprecedented aerodynamic by-pass to increase downforce.
The interior mirrors the extreme exterior while maintaining the comfort and space that buyers of Ferrari’s front-engined V12 berlinettas have become used to. The cabin has been given a sportier look that the F12, with the dashboard looping around the central air vents for a sculptural look.
There are also new seats, steering wheel and instrument clusters, as well as upgarded infotainment and air-conditioning units.
